Consecration of the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Picture
This summer as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, on June 11th the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops will consecrate the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. All parishes and all Catholics are asked to join the bishops in this celebration.

All are invited to a special Mass at Ss. John and Paul at 12 noon on June 12th, which will include the Prayer of Consecration and conclude with the Litany to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

250 Hours of Adoration and 250 Works of Mercy

All are invited to participate in this Consecration by offering a collective 250 hours of Adoration and 250 Works of Mercy between now and Independence Day. Register each Holy Hour or Work of Mercy your household makes by clicking or tapping 250 Hours, and watch the stained glass window display in the gathering space to see how Ss. John and Paul's prayers and works grow!

Word of the Month: Consecration: The moment when the bread and wine become Jesus's body and blood.

Corpus Christi Sunday/ Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is also known as Corpus Christi Sunday. It is the the feast day that focuses on the Holy Eucharist. Celebrate by attending Mass this weekend and then stay a few minutes after Mass to say an extra prayer.

Consider planning a family visit to the Blessed Sacrament. Talk ahead of time about the gift of spending time with Jesus in this special way and about how we can show with our bodies that we are in the presence of God. Take some time to talk about the experience afterwards too!

Fun Family Activity: Bake bread together and talk about the Eucharist and what we believe.

Celebrate the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ
Pope Urban IV instituted the Feast of Corpus Christi to the Church in 1264. He asked St. Thomas Aquinas to write the feast's liturgical prayers and hymns, including Tantum Ergo. Pray Tantum Ergo together:

Down in adoration falling,
Lo! the sacred Host we hail,
Lo! o'er ancient forms departing
Newer rites of grace prevail;
Faith for all defects supplying,
Where the feeble senses fail.

To the everlasting Father,
And the Son Who reigns on high
With the Holy Spirit proceeding
Forth from each eternally,
Be salvation, honor blessing,
Might and endless majesty. Amen.
