Lent begins on February 18 with Ash Wednesday. Lent is a time to quiet the outside noise and strip away the distractions, helping us to prepare for the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus. Find resources here to help your family live Lent more fully this year.
Check back here often for the addition of more Lenten resources for use this season.
Lent is a busy time! It can also be a meaningful, joyful, and even peaceful time if we live Lent intentionally, as a season of preparing our hearts and homes for Jesus's resurrection. Find Lent Resources from the Diocese of Des Moines here.
Mary’s Meals is an international ministry which brings a meal to hungry children living in 18 countries throughout the world. Founder Magnus McFarland-Burrows recognized that the biggest factor in children not receiving an education in Third World countries was a lack of food. He discovered that the children were so hungry, they couldn’t concentrate in school, and subsequently missed class in order to fill a bigger need; begging for food. Now children are guaranteed a meal each day in their school, and a future that is much more promising. He started the ministry in 2002, feeding 200 children a day, and now this ministry feeds over 3 million a day!
Mary's Meals is our parish almsgiving project for Lent. Beginning Ash Wednesday, we will pass out blue solo cups for you to collect your change and contributions, along with a calendar of suggested ways to stay in solidarity with the poor throughout the season. Bring your cup to Mass each week and dump your collections into the large Mary's Meal cup on the steps of the sacristy. $25.20 feeds a child for an entire school year!
Mary's Meals serves children warm mugs of vitamin-enriched porridge to help them learn and grow. Join Fr. Mark in doing porridge days on Wednesdays and Fridays. Try these porridge recipes and put the money you save by by serving a simple porridge meal into your Mary's Meal cup.
