Bible Basics

This year as we continue our study of the Bible and learn more about the New Testament, let's take a minute to review how we find Bible passages.  We look them up by the name of the book of the Bible (check in the table of contents to find where each book begins).  The first number is the chapter. The number after the colon is the verse or verses. Practice looking up verses.  One person open the Bible and write down a verse you like.  Give your verse to the person to your right and see if they can find the verse.  See how many you can get correct. Happy learning!

Bible Story

Picture
This month we are going to learn about Jesus growing up. There are not many stories in the Bible that tell us of Jesus’ childhood. We do know that he was a baby and grew up just like each of you.

This video mentions that Jesus had brothers and sisters. In his time and culture, relatives such as cousins were often referred to as siblings. Some Scripture scholars believe that reference to the brothers and sisters of Jesus in the gospels may point to children of Joseph from a previous marriage.
You can learn more about Jesus' childhood in these podcasts from Catholic Sprouts. They talk about what Jesus' childhood may have been like.  The first one is linked below.

This year as we explore the New Testament, we will learn more about Jesus. "Jesus My Friend" is an activity that we will do each month. If you need a new cutout, you can find the printable on the September with Children page.

Jesus is our friend. At Christmas we heard the story of Jesus’ birth and how he was born in a stable to his parents Mary and Joseph.  Jesus was a baby and then grew just like you.  Put Jesus in your bedroom and each morning or evening talk to Jesus about the things you learned today.  Each day we learn new things.  What things did you learn that were hard?  What did you really have to work at?  What things did you learn today that may have been easy?  Thank Jesus for your gifts and talents and remember to thank him for the things that were hard for you today. The things you had to work at and all that they taught you.
