Advent Coloring Pages

Coloring is a fun activity to do together as a family. Often, while coloring together, conversations flow in different ways because the focus is on the activity. Brother Mickey McGrath has created free coloring pages for Advent to help us focus on the words of the Advent gospels. Use colors that evoke a sense of hope, and then decorate your prayer space with the finished pages. Why not color two pages and share your Advent hope with someone who needs it? The possibilities are many!

Family Reading for the Season

There are many, many good books available to assist families in observing the seasons of Advent and Christmas. The Jesse Tree is a wonderful Advent tradition that helps us to know the ancestors of Jesus and the story of salvation history, and some books explaining that tradition are curated below. Other traditions and stories about Advent and Christmas have developed over the years, and you will find a link to that curated list below as well. Happy reading!

Meal Prayer

This meal prayer for Advent is loosely based on the Jewish prayer pattern of giving thanks that we learned about last month.

Prayer Journal

One of the ways we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus is through prayer. Use this prayer journal to assist you and your household in your Advent prayer.

Stations of the Manger

Here is a wonderful way to prayerfully build your nativity scene in the days leading up to Christmas! Each day, add a figure and reflect on a gospel story, share a song, and talk about your hope this Advent season. These reflections are more appropriate for older children and teens, but can be simplified for younger children.
